Avoiding excess luggage charges when checking in… December 27th, 2007

Later on today/tomorrow I am flying from a central European destination back to Cork. The worst thing about flying back from a destination is that you always have more luggage than when you went. This is especially true, if like me you love food and do some local shopping before you leave or its Christmas time and you are laid down with gifts.

So below are the things I do that normally help avoid the excess charges (20KG is not realistic IMHO). While these will not work all the time, the majority of the time I have found one or more of these in combination has allowed me to exceed the baggage allowance by a few kilograms (maybe 5 or 6KG if you are pushing it)
